Abstract:

 

Northern coasts of Iran with Caspian moderate climate need to geological studies The study area between Chalus to Salmanshahr consists of two main portions : Alborz Mountain part and Coastal plane of Caspian sea.

In study of area, active tectonics analysis is accomplished based on Mountain front faceting, Mountain front sinuosity, V ratio and wide of valley to its height ratio. These parameters show that Alborz mountain part and its front (Mazandaran-khazar reverse fault) are active. apparently, coastal plane is situated under effects of Alborz tectonical movements during Quaternary and perhaps Pliocene. So that vertical erosion of Rivers increased under its results. Nowadays recent uplift documents in Coastal band is shown as Fluvial terraces in Sardabroud, Tiloursar, and Namakabroud rivers.

In sedimentologic fieldworks was taken some specimens from coastal plane and coast of Caspian deposits. Then the analysis of its results was presented as cumulative percent graphs during this report. Generally, grain size of deposits mostly is fine sand and little amounts of coarse gravel (and some cases have a few silt and clay) in the study area. Sorting of grains mostly is very bad and in some cases changes to good. Source rocks of sediments often are cretaceous limestone or dolomitic-marl limestone from higher areas in southern mountain. Although igneous lithics exist and increase to west (from Chalus toward Salmanshahr).
