Facies Analysis & Depositional Environment of Ilam Formation

In Kamestan Anticline (Norh of Izeh)

Abstract:

Ilam Formation in Kamestan anticline, 40 km. north of Izeh city, with thickness of 169 m. is investigated in this study using petrographic methodology. The Formation consists of grey, medium to thick bedded limestones. In comperhensive petrography study of the Formation, 150 thin sections were studied. Statistical analisis of magor components of the microfacies indicat that the formation was developed in a distally steepened ramp. Based on microfacies study and aboundant of main allochems, nine microfacies are distinguished, that are related to Inner ramp, Mid- ramp and Outer ramp sub- environment.
