Polarographic and voltammetric investigation of new synthesized βdiketone (2 methoxy Benzene Thiol Acetyl Acetone)
Electrochemical reduction of newly synthesized compound (β diketone) on hanging mercury drop electrode with different techniques (DC, DP, SWV and CV) in Ethanol /water (% 50
) and Britton Robinson buffer were studied.In negative scan for β diketone two cathodic peaks are obtained around -1.3 and -0.5 V, without any peak in the reverse scan.The relation between cathodic current with compound concentration and sweep rate is linear, that shows the diffusion nature of the electrodic process. The αn value for these compounds were determined about 1-2 by two different methods.The effects of pH in the range of 4-11 in binary mixture of water and ethanol (50% v/v) for both compounds were investigated. Diagram of potential versus currents shows a deflective at pH values between 7.5-8.5 which can be attributed to the pKa
of protonated form of the compound. According to the experimental results obtained a probable mechanism of reduction together with adsorption of proton is deduced.
