Optimization of gallium selective extraction conditions from Bayer solution by Taguchi method

Abstract:

Solvent extraction of gallium from Bayer solution of Jajarm aluminia plant using Kelex100 as extractant was investigated. Taguchi experimental design method was used in order to optimization the separation factor of Ga and Al. Temperatuer:65 oC, volume ratio of aqueous phase to organic phase: 3.0:1.0, process time: 60(min) and organic phase containing 15 vol.% Kelex100, 5 vol.% isodecanol in kerosene, as optimum conditions were obtained. In this conditions, 70% gallium and 0.3% aluminium was extracted and separation factor, was obtained 1200.
