Comparison of ASTER and ETM+ data for mapping hydrothermal alteration: a case study of Chahargonbad area، kerman
As hydrothermal alteration can be used as a criterion for mineral exploration, recognition of the altered areas can be helpful as far as regional mineral exploration is concerned. In this investigation ASTER and ETM+ data has been used for alteration mapping in Chahar Gonbad area. Analysis and comparison of ASTER data with ETM+ data showed that these images can recognize the altered areas with more accuracy. In this paper, different approaches for recognition of altered areas through image processing techniques by using band ratios, principal component analysis and false color composites, are taken. Both data sets are analyzed and compared by using different image processing techniques in order to verify the superiority of each data for alteration mapping.
