Abstract

This research was based on measuring of rock resistance with geological hammer (ISRM method), Evaluation of mechanical rock properties and grade of weathering using a Schmidt Hammer (Brand method) and fissure and joints with field measurements (Bienawski technique). The 3 physical and mechanical analyses for evaluation sensitivity of rock units to weathering are investigated. This research was assessed in the Maharlu Catchment. The Maharlu Catchment is an extensive catchment in the south of Iran and Zagros Mountains. It covers an area of approximately 4274 km2 which mainly composed of limestone outcrops. The acquired data put together and the formations in basin, measured in base of acquired results and the sensitivity of each of them to weathering identified. Finally the map of sensitivity of different geological formations to weathering of Maharlu basin has been assigned. The data resulted from field analysis, state that Asmari-Jahrum F. posses lesser sensitivity and higher resistance rather other geological formations and place in-group of slight to weathering. Bakhtyari F., Bangestan F., Tarbur F. and Sachoun F. possess have moderate sensitivity to weathering. Hormos series, Pabdeh-Gurpi F., Razak F. and Aghajari F., place in group of critical to weathering too
