Abstract:
The Slope Mass Rating (SMR) presented by Romana (1985, 2003) for determination of the rock mass class, the type of rock slope failure and support design. In this paper , the method of SMR used for classification of 37 rock slope with potential of rock fall in Chalus road (North of Iran).
In this area, the probability of planar/ wedge failure is more than toppling failure. From many case of sandstone slopes in Kahar, Lalun and Duroud Formations, only the Duroud sandstone slopes need to complete support system (Toe ditch , Systematic bolting, Spot shotcrete) due to the lowest SMR value (54-58). The Kahar sandstone slope have maximum stability and highest SMR value (Mean 70). Finally , all of the rock slopes need to complete support system (except one slope case in Kahar sandstone)
