Abstract

Highly unusual increased sulfate concentration in groundwater of south west part of Ajabshir plain and being sulfate type groundwater between chloride types is an abnormal task and hydrogeologically, considering origin of this problem is very important. For studding the origin of this anomaly, the previous hydrogeological data are collected and also some water samples are obtained from abstraction wells and analyzed. Information resultants from lithological studies in high sulfate anomaly area are analyzed with two approaches such as mass balance and graphical methods. Cause of increasing sulfate values (upto11.9 meq/l) in the south west of the plain is determined. Then the methods for groundwater purification of the area are provided
