abstract

The availability of the new generation commercial one-meter resolution satellite imageries have provided valuable data sets for producing and updating large-scale digital maps. In this study experiments have been conducted to evaluate the suitability of IKONOS images for large scale map revision. The experiments include the assessment of the geometric accuracy and the evaluation of the information contents of these images for map revision purposes. The experiments were conducted on a Geo panchromatic IKONOS scene of the city of Hamadan, Iran, and a Pan-sharpen IKONOS scene of the city of Rasht, Iran. The overall evaluation has given an indication that complete map revision for the scale of 1/10000 may be safely carried out using IKONOS image.
