abstract

Road accidents are among he vital threats to human lives and infrastructure all over the world. The problem is also very severe in Iran. Detection of accident – prone areas in road network, documentation of position , injuries and losses, time and quality of accidents are of prime importance in road accident management. A number of techniques are being used in geometrics for location and positioning of road accidents and emergency response operations.
This paper illustrates an integrated system developed including geospatial information system (GIS), automatic vehicle location (AVL) and global positioning system (GPS) in order to locate and navigate the emergency response team to disseminate the accident information to the nearest emergency center.
The system has been successfully tested in Ghazvin – Rasht Express Way in north of Iran.
Response time reduction and quality improvement of response operations are among the benefits of the developed system.
