Stability of Nosoud Tunnel (second segment) based on empirical Austrian and Finite Element (FEM) Methods

      The Nosoud tunnel partly provides the water of west Iran tropical plains. The 48 km length tunnel has about 8/1000 dip topographic toward SW in Kerman shah province. During tunneling instabilities such as shear zones may be cause destruction and delaying of TBM progressing rate, therefore stability analysis s necessary. In this study, the analysis has been done by using empirical Austrian and finite element (FEM) methods. Sheet of mechanical and physical properties and treatment of rock mass have been presented. Based on the analysis in critical condition, four along-strike sub zones were introduced as follows: Ep1, Ep2, Kg and Ki sub zones. The Ep1 and Ki sub zones have acceptable strength and stability. It seems that EP2 sub zone will be collapsed. Kg sub zone will encounter the greatest displacement and squeezing.
