Abstract:
Many problems have been occurred during the excavation of Ghomroud tunnel in falling and unstable zones, some of which have been counteracted using appropriate measures, but others caused long term TBM stoppages. These have been determined by geological conditions on one hand and operational causes such as machine operator etc. on the other hand. This paper is to study different effective causes of TBM stoppage in crushed zones and possible measures for counteracting these problems. Taking into consideration the weak and crushed zones in tunnel alignment (i.e. 80% of tunnel length), precise prediction of these zones resulted risk before excavation and subsequently use of appropriate measures will significantly reduce TBM long term stoppages.
Key words: full face mechanized tunneling, TBM, fault zones, TBM jamming, Ghomroud water transfer tunnel.
