Mineral explorations using the combination of aeromagnetic, remote-sensing and geological-mineral data have been carried out in the northwest of Iran (Zanjan Province) that covered
an area of 2500 Km2. The studied area is located at longitudes
49,00-49,30 E and latitudes 36,00 –36,30 N.
In this region the main lithology is composed of volcanic and pyoclastic rocks that have middle-Eocene age (Karaj Formation). In the period after Eocene (Oligocene) and during Pyrcanian tectono-magmatic phase several plutonic and suhvolcanic bodies have been intruded in above mentioned rocks.
Studies show that the main factor for widespread mineralization (lead, zinc, copper...) and their associated alterations (such as kaolinite deposits ...) are these intrusive bodies.
In this method in the first stage the aero-magnetic maps of the area have been prepared and then their data were categorized in two group: The map of iso-magnetic lines and the map of interpretation of data . In the second stage the above mentioned maps have been correlated and combined with the information of geological maps and field observations and new composed maps have been prepared.
The consideration and comparison of these new maps show the strong relationships between the location of aero-magnetic anomalies and structures, intrusive bodies and the areas of mineralizations and alterations.
These results can provide useful exploration keys for more detailed exploration programs and economic geologists.
