Based on study of planktonic foraminifera of the Gurpi Formation in thin sections, three Morphotype groups is recognised. Each group was adapted to a speacial depth of water column. The morphotype groups are charachterised by:
First group is index for shallow waters and has biserial or tochospiral tests with globular chambers and little ornamentation Second group with bioconvex trochospiral tests and true keels or trochospiral tests with globular but heavily ornamentated chambers indicatesintermediate waters.
Thired group is charachtersed by keeledplano-convex trochospiral tests and is index for deep waters.
This study shows an overall regression through the GurpiFormation
