Structural pattern of the depressions of the east of Iran

   General:
     During the Neogen - Quaternary (Late Alpine phases) the compressional stress from south west (related to the opening of Red sea) and east ( movement of India to the north) in eastern Iran caused the activity of strike - slip faults the adjecent to blocks in flysh zone , and consequently formation of depressional basins .The main trend of faults is north - south (Nehbandan and Harirud faults ) associated with minor faults. The transtension along bending of strike - slip faults produced the Neogen pull - apart basin trending north - south (Zabol depression ) and north west - south east (Sahiabad - Mokhtaran , Goat and Faiz Abad depressions)
The continuity of tectonic movements in eastern Iran flysh zone caused some complexities in the geometry of above mentioned basins and difficulty of a unique structural modelling
