   Abstract:
The fertile plain of Ajabshir is located 90 km south of Tabriz and east of Urumiyeh lake and its area is about 130 km2. Due to more newly drilled deep wells and groundwater resources over-exploitation in recent years, the groundwater quality of the area especially the southern and western parts of the Plain is deteriorated and the saline water intrusion is increased. The purpose of this paper is to determine origin of saline water using from hydrochemical data of the aquifer. Therefore, from the previous hydrogeological data and several number of sampling from the plain wells, two groups of saline water are distinguished. Because of the differences in saline water compositions of the different parts of the plain, the origin of the saline water in the aquifer must be different.
