Abstract:
Middle Cretaceous carbonate deposits of Sarvak / Ilam Formation in Gisakan Mountain section (Bushehr Province) with the total thickness of 468m was studied.
Elemental and oxygen and carbon isotopes studies indicate an original aragonite mineralogy in both Formations. Bivariate plots of elemental composition in each carbonate biozones in Sarvak / Ilam Formations led to the separation of biozones No. 21, 22, 26, 29 in Sarvak and biozone No. 30 at the base of Ilam Formation. Therefore, the unrecognizable stratigraphic contacts, in the field, between Sarvak / Ilam Formations were determined.
