Abstract:
Estimation of the mine reserve is considered to be the main objectives in mining exploration strategies. Volume, density and grade are three various important factors affecting mine reserve estimation.
In this study, computer-based software called FRACTAL SIMULATION was developed to simulate the hanging wall and the foot-wall of a deposit by the use of fractal method. Consequently trapezoidal method was used to calculate volume of the deposit between the hanging wall and the foot-wall. The accuracy of the fractal method for calculation of the volume of the mine deposit was verified with two well-known methods called Kriging and inverse distance approaches and close agreement was achieved between the volume calculated using fractal method with those volumes estimated by using Kriging and inverse distance methods. Furthermore; one important advantage of the fractal method in comparison with other two methods is that the fractal dimension of the hanging wall and the foot wall surfaces remain constant using the fractal method.
