Geotechnical property of intact rocks of AghchayEmbankment Dam site

   Abstract:
      The nature and behavior of subsurface rocks must be investigated in different civil engineering project such as dam construction. Reliable design parameters can be found from suitable in-situ tests, but it is not always possible to perform in-situ tests due to available technical facilities and economic conditions. Therefore, it is usual to test the specimens in the laboratory. In this study, to evaluate engineering properties of rocks in Aghchay embankment dam site, an earth dam with elevation of 111.5 meters in west Azarbayejan province, different laboratory tests were done on 98 specimens taken from exploratory borehole and their results were analyzed. Among the specimens, 43 are coarse grained clastic rocks (conglomerate and sandstone) and 55 from fine grained clastic rocks (mudstone, marl, clay stone and siltstone).
