   Abstract:
The Esfarjan dam site is located about 50 km south of Shahreza city and about 1 km of south west of Esfarjan with longitude 51? 54 and latitude 31? 39. The purpose of Esfarjan dam construction is to control and store drinking water for Esfarjan and villages and for irrigation purposes. The dam and its associated structures are mainly founded on limestone, shale and marlstone of cretaceous age. The subsurface exploration of the foundation includes seven vertical and two inclined drill holes. In this paper, geotechnical and geological results of the proposed dam are evaluated to study the extent of water leakage and stability of the foundation rocks. Detailed geotechnical investigations are required for the final design of this project.
