A study of under flow rate ettect on column flotationPerformance

Mechanical flotation machines in the most of mines in USA, Canada, South Africa and Australia have been replaced with column flotation cells. A column flotation cell consists of collection and froth sections. Its performance is controlled by side effects of these two sections. Optimum performance can be achieved by practical parameter's adjustment. Under flow rate is one of the most effective parameters in flotation cell performance.
In this study the effects of under flow rate on the hydrodynamic and metallurgical performances of the flotation cell have been investigated. Obtained results show that increasing in under flow rate, not only increasing the gas hold up in collection zone, froth height zone and basis rate, but also decreasing gas hold up in froth zone and average resident time. Flotation recovery and iron rate were increased and decreased in under flow respectively, also were decreased and increased in over flow.
In optimum conditions of flotation cell performances with hematite feed from Chador Malu hematite rougher flotation cell, hematite concentrate was consisted of 66.41% Fe and 0.035% P with 78.88% iron recovery.
