Biostratighraphy of the Bangestan Group in Sarkan oil Field

Category Paleontology and Stratigraphy
Group GSI.IR
Location 21th symposium on geosciences
Holding Date 24 May 2008

   Abstract:
Foraminiferal contents of the Bangestan Group in the Sarkan oil field in southeast of
Lurestan was studied. The group includes the Sarvak, Surgah and Ilam formation in this area. The nearly standard zonations of Wynd(1965) and Adams et al . (1967) were used as the basal zonation for comparison and five biozones were erected. These include:
Globotruncanita elevata elevata zone, Globotruncana concavata / ventricosa carinata zone,
Helvetoglobotruncana helvetica ? Clavihedbergella ? Hedbergella assemblagezone
   Oligostegina intervalzone, Rudist debris zone.
Two subzone were also erected in cluding: Ventilabrella(Planoglobulina) sp. and Stomiosphaera conoidea.
The assemblages show an age of late Albian to Companian for the Group in this area.
The recorded foraminifera also indicate a relativity deep marine environment of deposition for the period.
The established zonation shows no gap and or unconformity between the existing formations.
