Study of Seismotectoncal Active Deformation Right StrikeSlip in South of Makoo (Part of Ghafghaz Tectonic Area)

South Maku fault area with 200 km long and 50 km wide is located between Uroomiyeh and Balik (Turkey country) lakes. This area is included many right-lateral strike- slip faults that separate from north Anatoly fault system by a fault gap and left- stepping en-echelon pattern. Maku?Qarehziyaeddin fault (that introduces in this paper) forms eastern limit of this area. The zone is joined to the North Tabriz seismic fault toward south. Totally, mentioned trend is recognized as an important seismogenic trend.
South Maku strike-slip fault zone has formed in response to convergence of Arabian and Eurasian plates in Caucasus tectonic area. Investigation of historical and instrumental earthquakes indicates this zone is located in a setting with high seismically. On the basis of historical and instrumental earthquake analysis and estimation of moment magnitude, this zone has potential for producing earthquakes with maximum magnitude of Mw 7.3.
North south orientation of maximum stress axes and NW-SE trending of the faults are compatible with right- lateral strike-slip mechanism.
