This area contains fragments of structural tectonic Timan-Pechora province elements of different order. The structural tectonic elements control II order tectonic elements and local structural plan. For elements of different order it allows to predict the character of local structural plan, distribution density, basic trap parameters, and accordingly by their average values, to determine oil-gas bearing type and distribution laws of oil-gas accumulations.
For the analysis of structures the geoinformation system was used, implemented on the basis of ArcGIS 9.2. The object of investigation was to study the density of distribution of local structures for different tectonic elements and also their basic morphologic characteristics.
The distribution density of local structures on the area of the Timan-Pechora basin is 0.59 per 100 sq.km. The distribution density ifs distributed as the following: Malozemelsky-Kolguevsky OGD–0.30; Pechora-Kolvinskaya OGA—0.70; Khoreyverskaya OGA—0.93; Varandey-Adzvinskaya OGA—0.49; Korataikhinsky OGD—0.16. The distribution analysis shows their predominance in Khoreyverskaya OGA. Low density for Malozemelsky-Kolguevsky and Korataikhinsky OGD is resulted from the lack of data.
The area distribution of local structures is 1—240 sq.km, about 22 sq.km in average. By the degree of extension (length/width ratio) extended structures with the ratio 1/2 and more predominate; they are confined to tectonic faults. By amplitude medium (40-90 m) structures predominate.
The density of distribution area and local structural morphology depend upon the sign of I-II order tectonic elements–positive, negative and transitional. To positive structures about half of local structures are related including major ones. Less than 20% of all the local structures are determined in depressions.
The relation of local structures to faults is determined by their direct confinement to fault zones and morphological values: extension more than tree times, high amplitude predominance. This relation is inherent by 70-80% of local structures. Among local structures, studied by drilling, their deposition time correlation (Paleozoic or Mesozoic-Cenozoic) is rather equal. The oldest ones among Paleozoic, deposited in the Devonian, make just 10% of all the local structures; Permian structures predominate – about 30%. Among Mesozoic-Cenozoic structures 30% of all the structures are composed of Triassic highs. It can be considered that formation of more than 40% of structures coincides with tectonic genesis of the Later Paleozoic.
In areas, characterized by high reserve density and abundance of seismic data, the exhaustion of structural fund, lack or minor quantity of anticlinal objects are determined.
The use of ArcGIS 9.2 tools for morphological analysis of local structures of the Northern Timan-Pechora oil-gas bearing basin allows determining the laws of structural plan distribution and estimating the oil-gas bearing prospects of the region.
