Ore grade nickel oxide mineralisation at the Waite Kauri project
In preparation for the upcoming drilling program at Eagle Eye Metals’ Waite Kauri Nickel Project, historical exploration data has been made available by the Western Australian Department of Industry and Resources that shows the presence of ore grade nickel oxide mineralisation within the southern project area.
Eagle Eye’s Waite Kauri project area covers the southern strike extensions of the stratigraphy hosting GME Resources’ Waite Kauri nickel oxide deposit (1.30 Mt @ 1.33% Nickel & 0.14% Cobalt).Eagle Eye has recently completed an extensive soil sampling program that defined four key prospect areas for drill testing at Waite Kauri, including Wanaka, Taranaki, Ruapheu & Kaikoura. The Western Australian Department of Industry and Resources released a number of reports that relate to reverse circulation drilling undertaken over the southern Waite Kauri project area in the late 1990s. Wide spaced drilling on 800m by 50m centres, undertaken over the Ruapehu and Kaikoura prospects, encountered ore grade mineralisation in a number of drill holes. Wide spaced drilling was undertaken by both Reefton Mining and Anaconda Nickel on the Ruapehu prospect, which covers a broad area over the host ultramafic unit. The surface anomaly is approximately 2100m long, up to 400m wide and averages over 250ppm nickel, with peak values of over 2800ppm (0.28%) nickel. Results from reverse circulation drilling at Ruapehu show a number of intersections of ore grade nickel mineralisation, as well as significant cobalt and magnesium mineralisation. Most of the Ruapehu prospect remains untested by drilling and will be tested on 200m by 50m centres in the upcoming drilling program. The Kaikoura prospect covers a splay of the main host ultramafic unit. The surface anomaly is approximately 400m long, up to 100m wide and averages over 250 ppm nickel, with peak values of over 540ppm (0.054%) nickel. Wide spaced drilling by Anaconda Nickel encountered ore grade mineralisation in a number of drill holes.Eagle Eye will further test both the northern and southern strike extensions to this mineralisation in the upcoming drilling program. The surface sampling conducted by Eagle Eye, at Waite Kauri has proven highly successful in outlining significant and extensive zones of nickel mineralisation for drill testing and the recently released historical drilling data confirms the presence of economic nickel mineralisation within the project area.
