Renewable energy workshops scheduled for today in area
Workshops on renewable energy opportunities for farmers, ranchers and rural small businesses will be today and on two dates in March in the West River region. The meeting today will be at 7 p.m. in Belle Fourche at First Western Bank. The other two meetings will be 1 p.m., Wednesday, March 14 in Buffalo at the U.S. Department of Agriculture Service Center Conference Room and at 2 p.m., Tuesday, March 20 in Sturgis at the USDA Service Center Conference Room. The workshops will provide information for prospective applicants on the USDA Rural Development Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency program. The programs can provide guaranteed loans, grants or a combination loan and grant to eligible applicants for eligible projects and costs. Eligible projects for renewable energy systems include such things as wind, solar, biomass or geothermal systems. Energy efficiency projects, for example, can be such things as upgrading electrical motors; insulation; or heating, cooling and lighting upgrades. After the general workshop, USDA Rural Development staff will be available for one-on-one discussion if needed.
