The Maun Copper Project in northwest Botswana, being developed by Brisbane-based Discovery Metals Limited, has been further enhanced after new drilling revealed a fourth zone of copper-silver mineralisation within the project area.Known as the Plutus Prospect, the new copper zone is close to Discovery’s flagship Zeta Prospect and the nearby Petra and North East Zeta prospects, which have all been significantly advanced this year. Plutus, identified through a maiden drilling program across the prospect, hosts copper-silver mineralisation over at least 5km of strike length. Discovery said drilling completed at the Plutus Prospect confirmed historical drill results, with copper-silver mineralisation grading 1% to 2.5% Cu intersected over the 5km of strike. Discovery’s drilling indicates the mineralisation is shallower than historically intersected, suggesting the mineralisation is potentially amenable to open pit extraction. Results from six of 18 holes have been received, covering 2km of strike, and the results from the remaining 12 holes, covering 3km of strike, are expected within the next month Discovery’s Managing Director, Jeremy Read said results from the first six holes drilled at Plutus suggested there is further potential to extend the strike length of the Plutus mineralisation. “The results from Plutus are particularly significant as the grades and thicknesses of mineralisation are quite comparable to those which occurred at the main Zeta Prospect at a similar stage of development, when only broad spaced drilling had been completed,” Mr Read said. “Our drilling at Plutus has been focused on defining shallow copper-silver mineralisation and we expect that a high proportion of any mineral resource will convert to open pittable tonnes, significantly increasing the total resources at Maun able to be extracted via open pit operations,” he said. “Once we have all the results in from the Plutus drilling, they will be assessed with the goal of defining an Inferred Mineral Resource to add to the existing resources at Zeta and Petra. Extension drilling will also be completed as Plutus is open to the northeast and southwest.”
