Ramelius commences drilling at Wattle Dam
With planning well advanced for its proposed underground mining operation at the Wattle Dam Gold Mine in Western Australia, Ramelius Resources has announced a major drilling initiative to expand the project’s resource base. The company said its new diamond drilling program aims to expand the current Wattle Dam resource; define further high-grade zones at depth; and to provide geotechnical information to allow for the design of a portal and decline for proposed underground mining operation.Diamond drilling at Wattle Dam will continue until at least June, with approximately 4,000m of diamond drilling committed in the one continuous program. The Wattle Dam Gold Mine is located in the Spargoville Belt, 25km west of Kambalda in the Eastern Goldfields of WA, and has produced some of the highest-grade gold intersections and specimens discovered to date in the State.Ramelius’ Managing Director, Joe Houldsworth said: “This is an exciting time for the company as each new hole has the prospect of locating new high-grade zones at Wattle Dam similar to those discovered in 2007.”“I have no doubt that the Spargoville Belt is highly prospective for gold, not to mention nickel, and Wattle Dam represents the premier opportunity to discover a world-class high-grade gold deposit in Australia,” he said.
