Nineteen mine workers have been killed in a suspected underground methane gas explosion at a coal mine in Turkey. The explosion in a mine in the north-western province of Bursa Thursday night led to a shaft collapse, igniting fire. The blast at a depth of more than 200 meters was reportedly caused by a buildup of methane gas. Six bodies were recovered Friday morning, while the other 13 remain trapped as rescue workers were unable to reach deep inside because of the high concentration of gas in the mine, Turkish media said quoting the country’s labor minister. It is also reported that three miners were rescued and brought to the surface alive. Turkey’s coal mining industry has a poor safety record, leading to mine accidents, many of them fatal
