Steel billet exports down 8.55 pct in November over October
In November, Turkey’s total steel billet exports amounted to 338,778 metric tons, decreasing by 8.55 percent month on month, and up 3.9 times compared to November 2008. Meanwhile, the revenue generated by these exports totaled $148.13 million, increasing by 3.35 times compared to the same month of the previous year, but down 9.09 percent over October this year. In November, the average export price of Turkish steel billet was $437/mt, down $2.63/mt or 0.6 percent from October levels, and indicating a decrease of $55/mt or 11.25 percent from $493/mt in November 2008. On the other hand, in the January-November period of the current year, Turkey’s steel billet exports slid 4.51 percent year on year to 2.25 million mt, totaling a value of $924.44 million, down 53.17 percent compared to the corresponding period of the previous year.
