 Quakes hit northeastern Iran

Tehran, March 28, IRNA -- An earthquake measuring 4.2 degrees on
the Richter scale shook the city of Shahroud, in the northeastern
province of Semnan at 06:01 hours local time (01:31 GMT) Saturday.
The seismological base of Geophysics Institute of Tehran
University registered the epicenter of the quake somewhere in
northern part of the city of Shahroud.
The city`s governor office announced this morning that no loss
of life or damage to property have been caused by the quake.
Another earthquake with the intensity of 4.6 degrees jolted
Shahroud on Wednesday morning.
Meanwhile, a tremor measuring 3.8 degrees on the Richter scale
hit the southern part of the city of Gorgan, the capital city of the
northeastern province of Golestan this morning.
The seismological base of Tehran University`s Geophysics
Institute said the tremor occurred at 08:03 hours local time
(03:33 GMT).
There were no reports of any casualties or damage to property
caused by the quake.
Iran is situated on some of the world`s most active seismic
fault lines and quakes of varying magnitudes are of usual occurrence.
