Jeffers Petroglyphs Historic Site will host “Geology Discovery Day,” Saturday at the Petroglyphs from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Jeffers Petroglyphs Historic Site will host “Geology Discovery Day,” Saturday at the Petroglyphs from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Visitors will examine examples of rock found at the historic site, while site guides explain how the rock formed over the ages.
Then guests will take a guided tour of the historic site’s rock face and explore the evidence of erosion in the sand ripples, mud flar and glacial scratches.
A driving tour to a nearby Sioux Quartzite quarry and Red Rock Dells will be offered at 3 p.m.
Admission to the site is $5 for adults, $4 for senior citizens, $3 for children ages 6 to 12, and free for children age 5 and under and for MHS members.
The Jeffers Petroglyphs is about eight miles northeast of Jeffers and seven miles west of Comfrey.
