Top Energy will lodge an appeal with the Environment Court against a decision which has blocked expansions at its Far North geothermal plant. The company wants to expand its Ngawha plant from 10 to 25 megawatts by taking more than double the amount of geothermal fluid currently used. A hearings committee declined the company's bid for increased extraction saying it could affect the springs, which are treasured by local Maori. But Top Energy CEO Rodger de Bray says there is no scientific evidence to show that the springs have changed, and there is nothing definitive to show they will.
