Iran to Produce 250m tons of minerals this year

   Mir-Mohammad Sadeqi noted that before 2002 production from mines was below 150 million tons per year, which grew 25-30 percent per year and will grow 10 percent this year to exceed 250 million tons.
   "At present, privatization in the sector has progressed 40 percent I as a result of the new interpretation of Article 44 of the Constitution," he noted.
   The official said based on new definition of the article only oil and 4 copper stocks were considered as major mines to be run by the government..
   "Exploiting mines entails great risks. It needs a lot of money as well as advanced facilities and machinery," he noted.
   Sadeqi noted that a recent Majlis, approval obliging the government to seek Majlis permission before going .I on with any kind of foreign contracts will only affect state-run mines and will have no impact on mineral contracts signed by the private sector.
