A moderate earthquake jolted India's remote Andaman and Nicobar island chain, the latest to strike near the archipelago that was hard-hit by last month's killer tsunami, Hong Kong seismologists said Saturday.

A moderate earthquake jolted India's remote Andaman and Nicobar island chain, the latest to strike near the archipelago that was hard-hit by last month's killer tsunami, Hong Kong seismologists said Saturday.

The 5.4-magnitude quake occurred near the Nicobar islands in the Bay of Bengal at 3:24 a.m. Hong Kong time Saturday (1924 GMT Friday), the Hong Kong Observatory said.

The seismologists said the tremor's epicenter was about 310 kilometers (193 miles) north-northwest of Banda Aceh, the capital of Indonesia's Aceh province, not far from where the 9.0-magnitude quake hit on Dec. 26.
