IRNA said the area affected was the southeastern province of Sistan-Baluchistan, which borders Pakistan. The governor of the town of Saravan, Mohammad Mohebati, said he did not known if there had been any casualties.

"Because the area is sparsely populated, we do not know if there are people injured or the amount of damage," Mohebati said on Sunday.A strong earthquake hit southeast Iran on Feb 22, killing at least 30 people, injuring another 500 and destroying villages. That quake, which measured 6.4 on the Richter scale, was centred on the town of Zarand in Kerman province, about 440 miles southeast of Tehran.
