2.5 Earthquake Hits East Tennessee
A 2.5 earthquake hit East Tennessee last evening, but chances are you didn't even feel it.
The quake was centered about 17 miles southwest of Knoxville in Blount County.
Workers at the Walker county science and technology center picked it up, however.
Thanks to a seismograph donated to the center by Georgia Tech, the quake was recorded, including minor aftershocks.
For those near the epicenter, however, no instrument was needed.
Thompson says Tennessee actually experiences an average of one earthquake a week...but most are so slight, you would need instrumentation to know it.
