The 20th World Mining Congress and Expo sponsored by the United Nations and tasked with exchanging the views between the experts in the field and to facilitate the transfer of technological know-how as well as making optimum use of the world resources will soon be held in Tehran, noted Dr. A. Almasi, the chairman of the Iranian National Organizing Committee.
Commenting on the participation of the representatives from member countries in the event, he said that 53 countries are currently members of the congress and each will be having at most four representatives in the executive board of the congress. He also added that the event is held once every three years in one of the member countries.
Referring to the annual exploration of about 20 billion tons of minerals in the world, he said that half of all the minerals required by the industries will be depleted within the current half century; therefore, the issue calls for more attention, optimized and timely exploitation of the mines.
He also commented on the articles and essays presented to the congress from 38 countries - the U.S., Russia, Germany, Poland, France and Canada - and maintained that the essays will be reviewed after the congress; a resolution covering the gist and essence of the essays will then be presented, ISNA (Iranian Students News Agency) reported.
In addition, about 150 domestic companies as well as 95 foreign enterprises from <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Germany, England, India, Poland, South American countries, Russia, Switzerland and France have expressed their readiness to attend the 4-day event with meetings held alongside.
