Tehran’s fifth earthquake safety drills are planned to be simultaneously performed in the capital’s municipal districts 16, 19 and 20 as well as the auxiliary province of Qom in January, deputy head of District 20’s Crisis Management Center said.
As reported by ISNA, Dariush Farajollahi stated that the disaster preparedness drills--the command headquarters for which is in Shahr-e Rey (Municipal District 20)--aim to coordinate various bodies involved in rescue and relief operations, and assess the center’s performance at times of emergency.
The official expanded that during hypothetical relief and rescue operations, each drill site is protected by a minimum one and a maximum six municipal districts. Also for each site, one of Tehran’s neighboring provinces is designated for playing an auxiliary role.
A meeting attended by representatives of different organizations which are to perform the drills was held on Oct. 26, the official said.
Those present at the meeting discussed details pertaining to the drills, how the responsibilities have to be shared among districts, the citizens’ preparedness and public education.
