During the last three years exploration studies in Sistan & Baluchestan has been focused on Taftan, Lar and Chehlkureh. Based of Iran's Mine House public Relation report the proved reserve of Chelkurh mine is estimated to be 8 million ton copper of 1% grade and detailed exploration & feasibility studies will be soon carried out in this area.
According to this report, surficial studies in Taftan led to reconnaissance of copper and gold bearing area and semi-detailed exploration will be started in this area in this current year. It adds that detailed exploration of Aliabad and Darreh Zereshk copper have already been finished and a reserve of 30 mt copper with mean grade of 72 percent has been calculated, feasibility studies on this ore deposit will be started very soon. This report indicates that Iran's copper proved reserve stands at 2 bn ton copper ore with 73 percent grade. Iran's copper proved reserve comparing to the world reserve is about 4 percent.
