An earthquake measuring 3.6 on the Richter scale hit Dasht-e-Kavir (Desert) in the eastern province of Semnan on Friday afternoon.

According to the Semnan Seismological Network affiliated to the Geophysics Institute of Tehran University, the quake occurred at 15:16:10 hours local time (11:46:10 GMT).

The tremor was felt in an area measuring 34.68 degrees in longitude and 53.18 degrees in latitude, the report added.

There are no reports of any casualty or damage to property.

Quakes of varying magnitudes often occur in Iran, which is situated on some of the world's most active seismic faultlines.
