South and south west of Tehran are influenced by subsidence phenomenon created by non-standard and extreme survey of underground table waters reserve that causes desert in these areas future.
Reporting the Public Relations of the Geological Survey of Iran, Eng.M.Javad Bolurchi, manager of the engineering geology group of GSI said: “The subsidence phenomenon has no instant damages but it causes many dangers later because underground tables are left and some regions around cities especially Tehran will be changed to desert unfortunately".
He announced that subsidence phenomenon would happen sooner if be used underground water reserves in plains extremely and it has occurred a few recent years due to development of industries and agriculture around cities.
He explained: “The experts tried to warn administrators after recognizing the occurrence in 1995 & 1996, so; a new and right management should be established about water reserves and existing problems”.
Manager of the engineering geology group of GSI added that the National Cartography Center of Iran(NCC) has leveled direction of two highways existing in south of Tehran that has been observed many height difference based on existing information that many areas of regions 17,18,19 of Tehran municipality have had 1.5 to 1.8 cm of subsidence during 9 years.
He described: “The problem was represented to the cabinet by NCC and vice-president, head of unexpected events center of the country was chosen as administrator for dealing with the problem that activity and collection of information in this case was given to experts of the engineering geology group of GSI”.
Eng. Bolurchi about probable dangers after occurring subsidence stated that the most important danger is cutting vital pipes such as: oil, gas, petrol and water and on the other hand, formation of sensitive structures will change.
He uttered: “The reports of first phase of studying subsidence of Tehran South were prepared and finished by experts of GSI until September the current year that complete text of reports was represented to Management and Planning Organization that the subject will be studied in the cabinet because it is critical”.
“It is anticipated that be restrained gravel and sand survey in first stage of reducing extraction of underground waters reserve”.
He explained finally that subsidence is a natural phenomenon in plains but the phenomenon is unnatural in south and south west of Tehran that has been created due to retouching the human in nature that it would make dangers future.
