Russian Society of Soil Mechanics , Geotechnics and Foundation Engineering State Governmental Committee on Construction (Goss troy) , Saint Petersburg State University of Transportation are honored to present for your attention the International Geotechnical Conference "Reconstruction of historical cities and geotechnical engineering " to be held on 17 to 19 September 2003 in Saint Petersburg . The Conference will celebrate the tercentenary of Saint Petersburg and will enjoy attendance of the leading Russian and international geotechnical experts . The Conference will be hosted by the State Governmental Committee on Construction (Goss troy) and Russian Society for Soil Mechanics , Geotechnics and Foundation Engineering . Range of Topics Section One . Reconstruction of historical cities . Subjects: Celebrating the 300th Anniversary of Saint Petersburg : geotechnical aspects of monuments preservation on soft soils Modern geotechnologies : efficiency , sparing working regimes to ensure safety of the existing buildings Underground construction in historical cities : underground traffic development , influence of underground construction on historical buildings and structures Geotechnical monitoring : methodology ,practice,results Geotechnical practice of risk assessment and management : methodology of risk assessment in reconstruction and new construction in terms of influence thereof on the existing buildings Section Two . Geotechnical calculations in reconstruction . Subjects: Assessment of influence of reconstruction and new construction on the existing buildings and structures under preservation Role of soil mechanics in reconstruction Calculations for joint superstructure - subsoil behavior Modeling of complex reconstruction situations in design and construction Working languages : All procedures of the conference will be conducted in Russian and English and will be accompanied by simultaneous translation . Technical Excursions Technical tours will be conducted on September 19 , 2003 . The topic of the tours is the " Reconstruction suburbs of Saint Petersburg " Venue of the Conference: Saint Petersburg Russia Papers will be published in the Conference proceedings . The participants are advised to limit the size of their papers to 6 pages of A4 format . All papers must be presented in the electronic format by March 1, 2003 . The Editorial Board will then make a final selection of the papers for the Conference Proceedings . No abstracts are necessary for submission . Please contact the Secretariat for the template and guidelines for the preparation of papers . Poster sessions : all authors whose papers will be accepted for the Conference Proceedings may present their contributions at Poster Sessions . The authors are requested to present their poster session applications no later than March 30,2003. Cultural Programme An attractive cultural programme will be provided during and after the Conference . Participants of the Conference and accompanying persons will have many opportunities to visit the sights of Saint Petersburg - famous museums , historical monuments and imperial places in the centre and the suburbs , as well as to sample boat trips .
