During the past years Geographic Information System have been increasingly applied for hydrogeological research studies and water resources management. However the coupling of GIS with hydrogeological models is a subject for current researches. Using two technologies of GIS and RS in the different steps of balance and groundwater model development and integration of GIS with the ModFlow model using GMS interface are the study targets. According to the hydrogeological balance developed for the aquifer ,the storage of aquifer has decreased –۸.۸ M.C.M. along the years ۷۹-۸۰ caused extremely extraction from groundwater resources by product wells. To evaluate the benefits of linking a GIS with the groundwater model ModFlow using the Groundwater Modeling System (GMS) interface for first time in Iran, aquifer of Ajabshir plain were selected and the model has developed with the conceptual model approach for both steady and transient states followed by the calibration for an annual period (Mehr ۷۹ to Mehr ۸۰) with ۴ stress periods which were visualized graphically by calibration targets. The results required from the mathematical model has shown an inverse flow direction (from the lake to the aquifer) in the southwest of the plain. Lack of any piezometers in the lake border has caused a discrepancy between observation and simulation hydraulic heads. Therfore it is necssary to bore new piezometers in these areas.Conceptual model development as a very important step in the model development has performed accurately by selection of necessary information (themes) from the database. The Landsat TM data is used in the conceptual model development, geological correction and extraction of vegetation cover.
