Seismicity and seismotectonics of Maku region with emphasis on the ۲۹^th April ۱۹۶۸ earthquake

The region referred in this study as Maku is enclosed between ۴۴ and ۴۵ east longitudes and ۳۹ and ۳۹.۴۵ north latitudes. This region is one of the seismologically active regions in Iran and has experienced destructive earthquake in the past causing destruction and human loss. In this paper, first we present a detailed and reliable faults map of Maku and review the historical destructive earthquakes that have occurred in this region. Then, seismicity features from instrumental observations in the past ۱۰۰ years and the seismotectonic of the region from fault plane solutions of strong earthquakes are investigated. Finally, the locally recorded earthquakes in this region are analyzed and discussed with the presence of observed active faults.
