The Second National Conference of Iran and ECO Was Held: Active Presence of the Geological Survey of Iran (GSI) in the Specialized Geosciences Committees of ECO
The Second National Conference of Iran and the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) was held at the Center for Political and International Studies of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with the participation of high-ranking officials, experts, and representatives of various institutions, with speeches by Seyyed Abbas Araghchi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, and Asad Majid Khan, Secretary General of ECO.
The representatives of the Geological Survey of Iran attended this conference as the national focal point of the Mining, Energy, and Environment Committee as well as the Disaster Risk Reduction Committee in ECO and played an effective role in the discussions and specialized panels.
It is worth noting that the presence of the Geological Survey of Iran (GSI) indicates its important position in regional interactions in areas related to land resources, environmental management, and resilience to natural disasters.
During the conference, three specialized panels were held under the titles of “Transportation, Communications and Intra-Regional Interactions”, “ECO and New Technologies” and “ECO in 2035; More Resilient, Coherent and Relevant”. The results of these meetings are to be used as part of the process of formulating ECO’s Vision 2035. While this year marks the end of the implementation period of ECO’s Vision 2025, the new 10-year vision document will be approved at the upcoming ECO Council of Foreign Ministers meeting to be held in Kazakhstan in November 2025.
At the suggestion of the Islamic Republic of Iran, the participation of all stakeholders, including scientific and specialized institutions such as the country’s Geological Survey, is envisaged in the formulation of this document.
It is worth mentioning that Iran, as one of the founders of ECO and the host of its secretariat, considers this organization as a strategic platform for expanding regional cooperation and strengthening its multilateral economic diplomacy. Moreover, the presence of such institutions as the Geological Survey of Iran (GSI) in these conferences puts emphasis on the significance of sustainable development of natural resources, environmental management, and preparedness against natural hazards within the framework of ECO regional cooperation.
