A New Step in Geological Scientific Diplomacy: Iran China laboratory Cooperation on the Path of Development

Following the memorandum of understanding signed between the Geological Survey of Iran and China Geological Survey on the sidelines of the 37th International Conference on Geosciences in Seoul, South Korea, in the summer of 2024, the two sides held a virtual meeting on Monday, June 2 , 2025, in order to cooperate in the field of capacity building and reference making of geoscience laboratories

Following the memorandum of understanding signed between the Geological Survey of Iran and the China Geological Survey on the sidelines of the 37th International Conference on Geosciences in Seoul, South Korea, in the summer of 2024, the two sides held a virtual meeting on Monday, June 2, 2025, in order to cooperate in the field of capacity building and reference making of geoscience laboratories.

In this meeting, Ms. Chen Zhihua, director of the geoscience laboratories of CGS and Mr. Li, a laboratory expert in CGS presented the topics on the management and capabilities of that complex as well as on the chemical analysis techniques for geological samples respectively.

Following this, the Director General of the geoscience laboratories of the GSI presented the capabilities of her respective organization in this field.

Soheila Niluyal continued: Joint cooperation can be carried out in the field of construction, development and launch of joint laboratories, calibration of devices, specialized consulting in this field, investment by the private sector of the parties, participation in research projects in the field of geosciences, and training and empowerment of human resources. Dr. Shariatmadar Tehrani, Director General of the Directorate, Public Relations and International Affairs of GSI, while re-emphasizing the desire of both parties for joint cooperation, announced the conclusion of an agreement in the field of reviewing the compliance of laboratory standards, developing methods for analyzing the minerals and rocks, training the staff and building joint laboratories in the territory of Iran in the near future and suggested that the speed of this cooperation should be increased, especially in the field of launching joint laboratories by the end of 2025 .by holding such meetings every 3 months
