Avoca Resources Ltd has announced the discovery of significant gold mineralisation at shallow depths from the newly named Wills Prospect, located 25km north of the company’s Trident Gold Mine at Higginsville, in
The results define a coherent blanket of supergene (oxide) mineralisation lying at a vertical depth of between 17 and 23m below the surface, and include:
· 2m at 10.1 g/t gold from 17m in HIGA860
· 5m at 5.7 g/t gold from 23m in HIGA768
· 5m at 3.9 g/t gold from 21m in HIGA769
· 4m at 4.4 g/t gold from 21m in HIGA877
· 2m at 5.8 g/t gold from 23m in HIGA876
· 4m at 2.3 g/t gold from 20m in HIGA880
· 4m at 1.8 g/t gold from 17m in HIGA882
· 5m at 1.7 g/t gold from 22m in HIGA875.
The discovery of the Wills Prospect occurs in an area of no previous drilling or evidence of historical workings. Wills is considered a blind discovery as the mineralisation is masked by an approximately 20m thick cover sequence of barren clays. To date Avoca has drilled 85 vertical aircore holes at Wills on an initial 200m x 80m grid with a follow up 100m x 20m grid on the higher grade mineralisation intersected in the initial reconnaissance program. Mineralisation appears to define an east-north-east trend over 1km in length, is open along strike in both directions, and is evident over widths of up to 200m.The location of Wills being 25km north of Trident and Avoca’s planned 1 million tonne per annum gold treatment plant, provides an opportunity for a possible open pit operation that may augment the planned Trident production.In-fill and extensional aircore drilling is scheduled for early August to fully define the extents of the supergene mineralisation while bedrock testing for primary mineralisation will commence in September.
