The results of a limited first pass drilling program at Ampella Mining’s wholly owned Madougou Gold Project, located in Burkina Faso, West Africa. The program consisted of 30 holes for a total of 2,565m into three prospects. 18 holes were drilled into the Dore prospect, which is situated in the northwest of Ampella’s tenements and is an area that has not previously been explored by mining companies.Ampella said that the program at Dore was designed to test for extensions to mineralisation immediately outside an area of active artisanal workings, which extend over approximately 750m by 250m, and to gain a better understanding of the controls of the mineralisation. The company reported that drilling at Dore encountered a wide zone of disseminated mineralisation within a wider zone of carbonate-chlorite-sericite and pyrite alteration. At least two generations of heavily pyrite altered intrusives were evident in the drilling and artisanal spoils, namely a quartz feldspar porphyry and a diorite. The disseminated mineralisation does not appear to be associated with quartz veining and is open in all directions, with a number of holes ending in mineralisation.Ampella said this style of mineralisation and alteration confirmed the potential of the prospect to host a large tonnage, intrusive-related gold deposit. Ampella’s Director of Exploration, Peter Williams said he was very encouraged by the results, which confirm Dore as one of the major focal points for the company’s gold exploration efforts going forward.“From these results we have been able to interpret two zones of stacked supergene mineralisation and we will now investigate in more detail what lies beneath the supergene gold mineralisation,” Mr Williams said. “In addition, our geological and geophysical mapping indicates the potential for repetition and strike extensions of the mineralisation,” he said.“Our future work program will include additional detailed and regional geochemical surveying. “Previous orientation surveys over Dore have indicated the multi-element response of the Dore mineralisation and these results will influence the geochemical survey techniques to be used over the previously unsurveyed 40 percent of our Madougou tenement area,” he said.
