From 26th to 29th November 2023, Tehran Will Host the 4th ECO Experts Group Meeting on the Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) in the region

The Director of the International Affairs Office of GSI announced the holding of the 4th Experts Group Meeting of ECO (Economic Co-operation Organization) member states on the Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) in the region hosted by the Geological Survey of Iran in Tehran and supported by the International Institute of Seismology and Earthquake Engineering

Indicating that the meeting would run from 26th to 29th November 2023 corresponding to the 5th to 8th Azar1402 with the participation of experts from ECO countries ,she mentioned that the co- thinking and sharing new ideas and perspectives and solving the problems in the geological hazards sector while putting emphasis on the subsidence and earthquake phenomena of the region as the most important goals of this gathering during which by providing some certain tools and ways the international procedures to strengthen regional efforts inorder to prevent and minimize their undesirable effects would be presented.

Mrs. Bakhshaee, stating that the exchange of knowledge and new ideas on the geological hazards section is the basis for creating more coordination and interaction of the environment and natural resources with geology, exploration and mining activities in the ECO region, noted based on the plans made in the secretariat of the 4th ECO experts group meeting, the participants on the first day and after the meeting held at the Secretariat of the of Economic Co-operation Organization (ECO) in the upcoming days, would visit the Advanced Earthquake Engineering Laboratories of the International Institute of Seismology and Earthquake Engineering (AEEL), the earthquake precursor station located in the north of Tehran and the subsidence phenomena of Kashan in the foothills of the Karkas Mountains and the edge of the central desert of Iran.

According to her, the 3rd ECO experts group meeting on disaster risk reduction in 2021 was hosted by the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority of Turkey (AFAD) and upon the joining of the Geological survey of Iran to the Human Resources and Sustainable Development Committee of ECO and the approval of its proposal titled Landslide Risk Zonation of the ECO member countries at the 33rd meeting of the ECO Regional Planning Council, GSI undertook the hosting of the 4th meeting in Iran - Tehran.

Not to mention that the Executive Secretariat of the 4th Experts Group Meeting of ECO has introduced Dr. Reza Shahbazi, Director General of the Hazards, Environmental and Geological Engineering Office of GSI and Mrs. Hanieh Bakhshaee, Director of International Affairs Office  of GSI as  the Scientific Secretary and the Executive Secretary of the meeting respectively.
